Learning/Special Needs

Special Needs

We work in partnership with parents to support children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).  All SEN practice at Mill Rythe Infant School is in accordance with the SEN Code of Practice.

Children at our school are identified as having SEN in a number of ways:

  • through the FSP
  • through screening for Hampshire's annual audit of SEN
  • annual formal screening tests
  • and most importantly, through on-going teacher assessment

Following identification the class teacher and the SENco set targets relevant to the child's needs on an Individual Education Plan.  The targets are worked towards in the classroom, supported at times by Teaching Assistants.  Parents will receive targets in writing, and the progress of the child is monitored.  If a child has a Statement of Educational Needs the school will meet the needs identified in the statement fully.

Details of relevant funding and of the provision of resources are available on request.
