Summer Holiday Ideas
The summer holiday ought to be a relaxed and carefree time for the children where they can enjoy a well earned break from school but is a great opportunity to practise skills already learnt and make sure that they continue to make good progress into the next academic year.
Many Parents have asked the Key Stage 1 team for ideas of activities to do over the summer with their children so we have jotted down a few to help if you feel you would like to use them:
- Please continue to read with and to your children. The more practice they have at identifying keywords in real books the better. Find something that your children want to read, enjoyment of reading and an understanding of story structure and character are vital in helping your children progress with their writing.
- Please continue to practise writing and spelling keywords, this will really help your child to construct increasingly complex sentences independently.
- Play board games and counting games to keep those number skills sharp.
- Increasing your childs attention span and ability to work un-aided is also really valuable. Challenge them to build / make something from card/ paper/ junk/ and finish it! Help them to see what they have done really well, and help them to use the thinking hats to solve their own problems.
- Get them excited about coming back to school!
We hope you find these ideas useful!
Have a wonderful Holiday … see you in September!
Kind Regards
Key Stage One Team
